DVS Metro Detroit Football Top 10: Week 3 Rankings
The top of the rankings holds steady, but Detroit King makes a major move after one of the biggest wins of the young season.
Three weeks into the 2026 Michigan high school football season, the Metro Detroit picture is beginning to take shape.
Detroit Catholic Central remains on top of the Detroit Varsity Sports Top 10, while Cass Tech holds firm at No. 2. But the biggest movement this week belongs to Detroit King, which jumps two spots following its dramatic double-overtime victory over Orchard Lake St. Mary’s.
Brother Rice continues its strong start, Clarkston moves up, and several programs remain in the hunt as we head deeper into September.
Here is the DVS Metro Detroit Football Top 10 following Week 3.
1. Detroit Catholic Central
The Shamrocks remain No. 1 and continue to look like the team to beat in Metro Detroit.
Catholic Central followed its season-opening success with another dominant performance, defeating Davison 56–14. Through the early portion of the season, DCC has given DVS little reason to move the Shamrocks from the top spot.
2. Cass Tech
The Technicians remain firmly at No. 2 after a 48–21 road victory over Grandville.
Cass Tech continues to build its case as one of the area’s premier programs, but Catholic Central’s dominant start keeps the Technicians just behind the Shamrocks for another week.
3. Detroit King ▲2
The biggest mover in this week’s Top 10.
King delivered one of the early season’s most memorable victories, defeating Orchard Lake St. Mary’s 44–42 in double overtime.
The Crusaders’ ability to go on the road and beat one of Metro Detroit’s established powers earns them a two-position jump from No. 5 to No. 3.
4. Brother Rice
Brother Rice stays at No. 4 following a convincing 42–6 victory over River Rouge.
The Warriors continue to stack impressive performances and remain right in the middle of an increasingly interesting Catholic League picture.
5. Orchard Lake St. Mary’s ▼2
The Eaglets fall two spots following the 44–42 double-overtime loss to Detroit King.
It was a loss, but hardly the type of performance that knocks St. Mary’s out of the upper tier of our rankings. OLSM went toe-to-toe with King in one of the best games we’ve seen this season before coming up just short.
6. Clarkston ▲1
Clarkston moves up one position after defeating Stoney Creek 14–7.
The Wolves didn’t need an offensive explosion to get it done. Clarkston made enough plays and came away with another victory, continuing a strong start that moves the Wolves into the No. 6 spot.
7. Warren De La Salle ▼1
De La Salle slides one spot to No. 7.
The Pilots’ scheduled matchup with Sandwich Secondary of Ontario resulted in a forfeit, leaving DVS without another full-game performance to evaluate that week.
8. Grand Blanc
Grand Blanc stays inside the Top 10 after completely controlling Carman-Ainsworth in a 48–0 shutout.
It’s exactly the type of result expected from a ranked program, and the Bobcats remain at No. 8.
9. Romeo
Romeo continues to make its presence felt after shutting out Port Huron Northern 48–0.
Another dominant defensive performance keeps Romeo firmly inside the DVS Top 10 at No. 9.
10. Dearborn Fordson
Fordson rounds out the rankings following a 21–20 victory over Plymouth.
It wasn’t a blowout, but Fordson did what mattered most: found a way to finish and get the win. That keeps the Tractors in the Top 10 heading into the next week.
The Final Whistle
Week 3 gave us the first significant shakeup near the top.
Catholic Central and Cass Tech remain 1–2, but Detroit King’s double-overtime victory over Orchard Lake St. Mary’s changes the conversation behind them. King climbs to No. 3, while St. Mary’s falls two positions to No. 5.
The next few weeks should tell us even more.
Catholic Central’s schedule is about to become more challenging, Brother Rice continues to build momentum, and King and Cass Tech are moving toward a matchup that could have major implications for both the PSL and the DVS rankings.
And with Clarkston, De La Salle, Grand Blanc and Romeo all sitting inside the Top 10, there isn’t much room for a bad Friday night.
