Detroit Catholic Central standout Gideon Gash has reached another milestone in his recruiting journey, earning five-star status in ESPN’s updated SC Next 300 rankings for the Class of 2027.
The 6-foot-4 cornerback and Texas Tech commit was named among the new five-star prospects in ESPN’s latest rankings update, which evaluates the nation’s top high school football recruits. Gash is ranked No. 21 in the updated SC Next 300, according to ESPN’s published recruiting analysis.
A Major Recruiting Milestone
Gash’s promotion to five-star status adds another distinction to an already impressive recruiting profile.
A versatile athlete at Detroit Catholic Central, Gash has drawn attention for his combination of size, athleticism and ability to contribute on both sides of the football. ESPN’s evaluation highlights his potential as a cornerback while also recognizing his ability to make plays on offense and special teams.
Gash is committed to Texas Tech, where he is expected to continue his football career after graduating from Detroit Catholic Central.
Recruiting Services Differ on Their Ratings
The five-star designation is specific to ESPN’s updated SC Next 300 rankings. Other recruiting services maintain their own evaluations, and their ratings do not always match.
For example, Gash’s current 247Sports profile lists him with a rating of 94 and a national ranking of No. 53.
That distinction matters: ESPN’s latest update represents a significant recognition of Gash’s standing in its recruiting rankings, even as other services continue to use their own ratings and rankings.
Another Storyline for DCC
Gash’s rise in the recruiting rankings gives Detroit Catholic Central another headline as the Shamrocks continue their 2026 football season.
For Gash, the five-star recognition marks another step in a recruiting journey that will carry him from the high school level to Texas Tech. For DCC, it further spotlights a program producing talent attracting national recruiting attention.
Detroit Varsity Sports will continue to follow Gash’s recruiting journey and Detroit Catholic Central throughout the postseason.
