FIVE STRAIGHT! Cass Tech Rallies Past Detroit King 21–20 to Capture Another PSL Championship

DETROIT, Mich. — The championship standard at Cass Tech remains intact.

Facing a 14-point deficit against one of its biggest rivals, Detroit Cass Tech delivered another memorable comeback Friday night, defeating Detroit King 21–20 at Ford Field to capture its fifth consecutive Detroit Public School League Blue Division football championship.

The victory kept the Technicians undefeated at 8–0 and extended their winning streak against the Crusaders to five games.

But this championship was anything but easy.

King Comes Out Swinging

Detroit King entered Ford Field determined to end Cass Tech’s championship streak, and the Crusaders wasted little time putting the defending champions under pressure.

King jumped out to a 14–0 advantage, putting Cass Tech in unfamiliar territory and forcing the Technicians to respond.

For much of the opening half, the Crusaders appeared capable of delivering one of the biggest victories of their season.

But Cass Tech quarterback Donald Tabron II and the Technicians’ offense began finding answers before halftime.

Tabron connected with wide receiver Peyton Robinson for a touchdown to cut into King’s lead and give Cass Tech momentum heading into the second half.

Tabron and Robinson Deliver

With the championship hanging in the balance, Cass Tech turned to its passing game.

Tabron continued connecting with Robinson, who emerged as one of the game’s biggest difference-makers.

The duo accounted for three touchdown connections, including the go-ahead score in the fourth quarter that put the Technicians ahead 21–14.

Tabron finished the night completing 14 of 19 passes for 111 yards and two touchdowns according to one published game report, although other coverage credits him with three touchdown passes to Robinson.

Regardless of the statistical discrepancy, the quarterback-receiver connection proved decisive in another championship performance.

One Final Stand

King wasn’t finished.

With less than two minutes remaining, the Crusaders found the end zone on a touchdown run by Willie Walker, cutting Cass Tech’s lead to 21–20.

Rather than settle for a potential game-tying extra point, King went for the lead with a two-point conversion attempt.

A false-start penalty pushed the Crusaders backward before quarterback Amir Forres was unable to handle the snap on the ensuing attempt.

The failed conversion preserved Cass Tech’s one-point advantage and ultimately secured another PSL championship for the Technicians.

Five Straight and Still Undefeated

For Cass Tech, Friday’s victory was another example of a program that continues to find ways to win when championships are on the line.

The Technicians have now claimed five consecutive PSL titles, all against Detroit King, while remaining unbeaten through eight games of the 2026 season.

What began as a difficult night at Ford Field ended with another championship celebration.

And with the MHSAA playoffs approaching, Cass Tech has an opportunity to carry that momentum into another postseason run.

For King, the narrow defeat represents a heartbreaking finish after pushing the defending champions to the final moments.

But for Cass Tech, the result reinforces a familiar message across the Detroit PSL:

The championship still runs through the Technicians.
