FOUR TOUCHDOWNS, ONE HISTORIC UPSET: Deondre Hill Leads Brother Rice Past No. 1 Catholic Central
Junior running back delivers the overtime winner as the Warriors snap Catholic Central’s 22-game winning streak at Ford Field.
DETROIT, Mich. — October 26, 2026 — When Brother Rice needed one final play to complete one of Michigan high school football’s biggest upsets, the Warriors turned to Deondre Hill.
The junior running back delivered.
Hill scored four touchdowns, including the game-winner in overtime, as Brother Rice defeated No. 1 Detroit Catholic Central 31–25 during Prep Bowl LIV at Ford Field on Saturday, October 24.
The victory ended Catholic Central’s 22-game winning streak and gave Brother Rice its first win over the Shamrocks since 2014.
But the historic result required more than one outstanding individual performance.
It took a complete team effort, a critical defensive stand and an offense that refused to back down.
Hill Delivers When It Matters Most
Hill was the centerpiece of Brother Rice’s offensive attack throughout Saturday’s rivalry matchup.
The Warriors relied on their running game to challenge a Catholic Central defense that had dominated opponents throughout the regular season.
Hill repeatedly found the end zone, helping Brother Rice stay within striking distance as the teams exchanged leads.
His fourth touchdown proved to be the biggest.
After Catholic Central failed to score on its overtime possession, Brother Rice needed one touchdown to secure the victory.
Hill finished the job.
The score sent the Warriors into celebration and ended one of Michigan’s longest active winning streaks.
The Defensive Stand That Changed Everything
Before Hill could score the winner, Brother Rice’s defense had to deliver its biggest stop of the season.
Catholic Central received the ball first in overtime and advanced to the Warriors’ 1-yard line.
The Shamrocks were positioned to take the lead.
Instead, Brother Rice’s defensive front stopped consecutive rushing attempts, preventing Catholic Central from reaching the end zone.
The goal-line stand turned the ball over to the Warriors.
It was the defining defensive sequence of the night.
Brother Rice had spent much of the game battling Catholic Central’s physical offense.
When the season’s biggest moment arrived, the Warriors won the battle at the line of scrimmage.
Christian Marshall and Drake Martin Make Their Mark
While Hill finished the scoring drives, Brother Rice’s passing game also played an important role.
Sophomore quarterback Drake Martin connected with sophomore receiver Christian Marshall on several significant plays.
Marshall’s kickoff return helped set up Brother Rice’s opening touchdown.
Later, with the Warriors trailing in the fourth quarter, Martin found Marshall for a 49-yard gain that moved Brother Rice to Catholic Central’s 1-yard line.
Hill followed with a touchdown to give the Warriors a 25–22 advantage.
The play demonstrated that Brother Rice could threaten Catholic Central through the air as well as on the ground.
Martin and Marshall’s connection provided the Warriors with another way to challenge one of Michigan’s toughest defenses.
Catholic Central Forces Overtime
The Shamrocks did not go away quietly.
After Hill’s late touchdown gave Brother Rice a three-point lead, Catholic Central mounted one final drive.
Kicker Ty Goddard connected on a 42-yard field goal with 20 seconds remaining, tying the game at 25–25 and forcing overtime.
The dramatic finish set up Brother Rice’s defensive stand and Hill’s winning touchdown.
For Catholic Central, the defeat was its first of the season.
For Brother Rice, it was a breakthrough victory against a rival that had controlled the series for more than a decade.
