Final Four Dreams: Metro Detroit Teams Prepare for State Quarterfinals

The road to the MHSAA Boys Basketball Final Four runs through Metro Detroit this week.

Several programs from across the region have battled through the regular season, survived district tournaments, and conquered regional matchups. Now, just one win separates them from the Breslin Center and a chance to compete for a state championship.

Teams like Brother Rice, Wayne Memorial, Auburn Hills Avondale, Detroit Country Day, Arts & Technology Academy of Pontiac, and Detroit Frederick Douglass all enter Tuesday night with the same goal, keep the season alive and punch a ticket to the MHSAA Final Four.

From powerhouse programs with championship expectations to teams making exciting tournament runs, the Metro Detroit area will be heavily represented in this year’s quarterfinal round.

Detroit Varsity Sports will be on site covering the Division 1 Quarterfinal doubleheader at University of Detroit Mercy, where two of the area’s top teams will battle for a place in the state semifinals.

Division 1

Auburn Hills Avondale (25–1) vs Roseville (19–6)

Auburn Hills Avondale enters the quarterfinal round riding an incredible run. The Yellow Jackets have not lost since December when they fell to Freeland (23–3) 70–56 at the Louis O’Neal Classic at Saginaw Valley State University.

Since then, Avondale has rolled through a tough schedule, picking up wins over strong programs including Clarkston, West Bloomfield, and Ferndale.

Avondale advanced to the quarterfinals after defeating Rochester Adams (18–8) in the Regional Final.

Roseville is also coming off an impressive victory, defeating Macomb L’Anse Creuse North (19–8) 70–47 in a convincing Regional Final performance.

Tip-Off: 7:00 PM

Date: Tuesday, March 10, 2026

This game will be the second matchup of the Division 1 doubleheader.


Wayne Memorial (23–3) vs Bloomfield Hills Brother Rice (21–5)

This matchup features two programs that have dominated the postseason.

While Detroit Varsity Sports has followed Wayne Memorial’s girls program throughout the season, this will be the first time covering the boys team, who have put together an impressive state tournament run.

Wayne Memorial advanced after defeating River Rouge (15–11) 71–47 in their Regional Final.

Brother Rice enters the matchup following a dominant 59–29 Regional Final win over Warren Fitzgerald (19–7). The Warriors’ defense proved too much for Fitzgerald, holding them to just seven points in the first half.

Location: University of Detroit Mercy

Tip-Off: 5:30 PM

Date: Tuesday, March 10, 2026

This will be the first game of the Division 1 doubleheader, which Detroit Varsity Sports will be covering.

Division 2

Detroit University Prep (16–9) vs Detroit Country Day (19–7)

Detroit University Prep advanced to the quarterfinals in dramatic fashion, narrowly defeating Warren Lincoln (8–18) 53–51 in the Regional Final.

Detroit Country Day enters the matchup after an impressive 53–36 victory over Yale (23–3) to secure their quarterfinal spot.

Both teams will be battling for a chance to reach the Division 2 Final Four.

Location: Detroit Renaissance High School

Division 3

Arts & Technology Academy of Pontiac (ATAP) (17–3) vs Harbor Beach (23–3)

ATAP enters the quarterfinal round playing some of its best basketball of the season.

The team is coming off a dominant 103–51 win over Center Line Prep Academy (19–9) in the Regional Final, their first 100-point performance of the season.

Harbor Beach, meanwhile, survived a thriller in their Regional Final, defeating International Academy of Flint (19–5) 64–62 in double overtime.

Location: St. Clair County Community College (Port Huron)

Division 4

Detroit Frederick Douglass (19–7) vs Waterford Our Lady of the Lakes (19–6)

Detroit Frederick Douglass advanced in dominant fashion, defeating Southfield Christian (20–6) 73–37 to secure their quarterfinal spot.

Waterford Our Lady of the Lakes also enters with momentum after a close 59–54 win over Ubly (16–9) in their Regional Final.

Location: West Bloomfield High School

Tip-Off: 6:00 PM

What’s Next

With a trip to the MHSAA Final Four at the Breslin Center on the line, Tuesday night’s quarterfinal matchups promise high intensity, big performances, and unforgettable moments.

Metro Detroit has several programs still standing, and by the end of the night, a few of them will be one step closer to a state championship.
