Prep Bowl LIV Takes Center Stage at Ford Field as Catholic Central, Brother Rice Headline Centennial Celebration

Three high school matchups, two defending state champions in the afternoon showcase, and one of Michigan’s biggest rivalries highlight a historic day for the Catholic High School League.

DETROIT, Mich. — One hundred years of Catholic League tradition. Three high school football matchups. One of Michigan’s biggest stages.

The Catholic High School League returns to Ford Field on Saturday, October 24, for Prep Bowl LIV, bringing together some of the state’s most recognizable football programs for a full day of competition and celebration.

This year’s event carries additional significance as the CHSL celebrates its centennial season.

The festivities will feature championship football, recognition of outstanding student-athletes and a showcase of the league’s history.

But when the lights come on for the evening finale, the attention will shift toward one of Michigan high school football’s most storied rivalries.

Brother Rice versus Detroit Catholic Central.

Catholic Central Looks to Continue Its Dominance

Detroit Catholic Central enters Saturday’s matchup undefeated at 8–0 and ranked among Michigan’s top high school football programs.

The defending Division 1 state champions have continued building on their successful 2025 campaign, carrying a 22-game winning streak into the Prep Bowl.

Head coach Justin Cessante’s program has established itself as one of the state’s toughest opponents.

Now, Catholic Central has an opportunity to finish the regular season undefeated while strengthening its position heading into the MHSAA playoffs.

The Shamrocks will also be looking to extend their recent dominance over Brother Rice.

Catholic Central has not lost to the Warriors since 2014.

A victory Saturday would add another significant result to an already impressive season.

Brother Rice Has an Opportunity to Make a Statement

Brother Rice enters the Prep Bowl with a 6–2 record and an opportunity to change the conversation surrounding its postseason potential.

The Warriors have already demonstrated their ability to compete against strong opposition.

But Saturday presents a different challenge.

Catholic Central is undefeated, nationally recognized within Michigan’s football landscape and accustomed to playing in championship environments.

For Brother Rice, this matchup represents an opportunity to demonstrate that it can compete with one of the state’s elite programs.

The Warriors have talented playmakers capable of making an impact, including Jayden Bell and Tyler Trusel.

But defeating Catholic Central will require more than individual performances.

Brother Rice must execute consistently, limit mistakes and capitalize on scoring opportunities.

A victory would be one of the program’s most significant regular-season accomplishments in recent years.

Two Defending State Champions Meet at 4:30

Before Brother Rice and Catholic Central take the field, Ford Field will host another intriguing matchup.

Dearborn Divine Child and Jackson Lumen Christi are scheduled to meet at 4:30 p.m.

Both programs captured MHSAA state championships in 2025.

Divine Child won the Division 4 championship, while Lumen Christi claimed the Division 6 title.

Both teams enter Saturday at 7–1.

The matchup provides an opportunity to evaluate two championship programs against quality competition just before the state playoffs begin.

For Divine Child, the game also represents an opportunity to perform on a major stage in front of a Metro Detroit audience.

Everest Collegiate and Royal Oak Shrine Open the High School Action

The high school portion of the Prep Bowl begins at 1:30 p.m. with the Cardinal Division championship.

Clarkston Everest Collegiate will face undefeated Royal Oak Shrine.

Shrine enters at 8–0, while Everest Collegiate brings a 7–1 record into the contest.

With a league championship at stake, the afternoon opener provides another compelling matchup between successful Oakland County programs.

Both teams have opportunities to strengthen their postseason momentum.

Celebrating 100 Years of Catholic League Athletics

Saturday’s Prep Bowl is about more than football.

The CHSL will recognize outstanding student-athletes, educators and individuals who have contributed to the league’s history.

Following the Divine Child–Lumen Christi matchup, the league will introduce its 100 Greatest Male Athletes and 100 Greatest Female Athletes.

The recognition is part of the league’s centennial celebration.

For generations, Catholic League athletics have played an important role in Michigan’s high school sports landscape.

Prep Bowl LIV provides an opportunity to recognize that history while celebrating the athletes competing today.

DVS Analysis: More Than a Rivalry Game

There are several reasons Saturday’s Prep Bowl deserves attention.

The afternoon games feature talented programs with championship aspirations.

But the nightcap carries the biggest storyline.

Catholic Central has everything to protect: an undefeated record, a lengthy winning streak and its position among Michigan’s top teams.

Brother Rice has an opportunity to prove that the gap between the programs is not as wide as recent results suggest.

The Warriors don’t need to win the state championship Saturday.

But they do have an opportunity to demonstrate that they belong in the conversation with Michigan’s elite.

For Catholic Central, the challenge is different.

The Shamrocks must avoid looking ahead to the playoffs and handle business against a motivated rival.

From a DVS perspective, Saturday’s biggest question is simple: Can Brother Rice end Catholic Central’s dominance, or will the Shamrocks enter the postseason undefeated?

Ford Field will provide the answer.
