Gideon Gash Electrifies as Catholic Central Dominates De La Salle, 53–0

NOVI, Mich. — Detroit Catholic Central delivered its most dominant performance of the young season Friday night, overwhelming Warren De La Salle 53–0 behind explosive special teams, a suffocating defense and an offense that consistently capitalized on favorable field position.

The victory moves Catholic Central to 4–0, while De La Salle falls to 2–2.

Senior Gideon Gash (#2) was at the center of the Shamrocks’ dominant night. The WR/DB scored three touchdowns without needing an offensive snap to reach the end zone, recording a pick-six and returning two punts for touchdowns.

Catholic Central established control immediately. Sophomore JJ Chevalier (#26) broke a big run that moved the Shamrocks to the one-yard line, setting up junior Jalen Montlouis (#24) for the game’s opening rushing touchdown.

Then the defense joined in.

Facing second-and-11, De La Salle threw a pass that Gash intercepted and returned for a touchdown, quickly stretching Catholic Central’s advantage to 14–0.

The Shamrocks continued winning the field-position battle. A 49-yard punt return created another short field, and junior Kaden Gonzales (#14) eventually reached the end zone to make it 21–0 before the end of the first quarter.

Gash Takes Over

Catholic Central didn’t slow down in the second quarter.

Junior Peyton Sofran (#3) hauled in a touchdown pass, and a successful two-point conversion extended the lead to 29–0.

Then came Gash.

Already responsible for the defensive touchdown, Gash broke loose for an approximately 50-yard punt-return touchdown. He wasn’t finished.

Later in the quarter, Gash struck again, taking another punt approximately 60 yards to the end zone for his third touchdown of the night.

By halftime, Catholic Central held a staggering 43–0 advantage.

De La Salle struggled to establish any sustained offensive rhythm. The Pilots picked up several short gains and managed to move the chains during one possession, but Catholic Central repeatedly ended drives before they could turn into scoring opportunities.

Shamrocks Finish the Shutout

With a substantial lead entering the second half, Catholic Central continued controlling the game on the ground.

Another big run put the Shamrocks inside the red zone before they punched in a rushing touchdown to push the score to 50–0.

Catholic Central’s defense remained aggressive despite the margin. The Shamrocks recorded a tackle for loss and later recovered a De La Salle fumble on a punt return, giving the offense possession at the Pilots’ 10-yard line.

De La Salle’s defense prevented another touchdown, but Catholic Central eventually added a fourth-quarter field goal for the game’s final points.

The Pilots made one final attempt to break the shutout, moving the ball downfield and converting a first down on a quarterback run. De La Salle recovered its own fumble and survived a near interception during the possession, but Catholic Central ultimately forced a turnover on downs.

The Shamrocks then went back to the ground and ran out the remaining clock.

Final: Detroit Catholic Central 53, Warren De La Salle 0.

For Catholic Central, the result wasn’t simply another victory. The Shamrocks produced touchdowns on offense, defense and special teams, while their defense kept De La Salle off the scoreboard entirely.

And on a night filled with big plays, Gash provided the biggest of them all.

A pick-six. Two punt-return touchdowns. Three trips to the end zone.

Catholic Central remains unbeaten at 4–0 — and the Shamrocks gave DVS plenty to consider heading into the next edition of the DVS Metro Detroit Top 10.

What’s Next

Both teams will head south of the Michigan border for their next matchup.

Detroit Catholic Central (4–0) will travel to Ohio to face Toledo St. John’s Jesuit (2–2). St. John’s enters the matchup looking to rebound from a 45–14 loss to undefeated Toledo Central Catholic (4–0).

That result also provides a preview of another major test awaiting the Shamrocks. Catholic Central is scheduled to host Toledo Central Catholic on Oct. 3 in Week 6, giving DCC consecutive opportunities against Toledo programs as its undefeated start continues.

Warren De La Salle (2–2) will also travel to Ohio, where the Pilots will face Toledo St. Francis de Sales (1–3). St. Francis is coming off a 42–7 loss to Orchard Lake St. Mary’s (3–1).

For De La Salle, the trip presents an opportunity to respond after consecutive losses to two of DVS’s highly regarded Metro Detroit programs — a narrow 31–28 loss to Brother Rice followed by Friday night’s 53–0 loss to Catholic Central.

For Catholic Central, the next two weeks should give DVS even more information about an unbeaten Shamrocks team that has now made one of the loudest statements of the season.
