Brother Rice One Win Away From State Semifinals After Regional Victory Over Saginaw Heritage
BLOOMFIELD HILLS, Mich. — The Brother Rice boys soccer team continues to build momentum at the most important time of the season.
The Warriors defeated Saginaw Heritage 2–0 on Tuesday, October 27, in an MHSAA Division 1 regional semifinal, advancing to Thursday’s regional championship with an opportunity to move one step closer to the state semifinals.
The victory followed a successful district tournament in which Brother Rice defeated Clarkston 2–0 before earning a 2–0 win over Walled Lake Northern to capture the District 6 championship.
Three consecutive postseason shutouts have made defense a defining feature of the Warriors’ playoff run.
Brother Rice Delivers Again
Brother Rice entered the regional semifinal after eliminating Clarkston, a team ranked No. 7 in the state at the time of their district semifinal, before securing the district championship against Walled Lake Northern.
The Warriors carried that defensive consistency into their matchup with Saginaw Heritage.
The 2–0 result extended Brother Rice’s winning streak and ended Heritage’s postseason run. For the Warriors, it was another opportunity to demonstrate that their postseason success is being built on more than a single upset.
Through the district tournament and regional semifinal, Brother Rice has not conceded a goal across its three reported playoff victories.
That defensive performance has helped the Warriors advance through increasingly difficult competition.
A Regional Championship Awaits
Brother Rice’s next challenge is Livonia Stevenson, which is scheduled to visit the Warriors on Thursday, October 29, at 6 p.m. for the Division 1 regional final.
The matchup represents a significant opportunity for Brother Rice. A victory would send the Warriors to the MHSAA Division 1 state semifinals.
Stevenson will present another difficult test, meaning Brother Rice will need to maintain the organization and defensive discipline that have carried it through the postseason.
DVS Take: The Warriors Have Earned This Opportunity
Brother Rice’s postseason run is becoming one of Metro Detroit’s notable boys soccer stories.
The Warriors followed a 2–0 upset of Clarkston with a district championship, then backed it up by shutting out Saginaw Heritage in the regional semifinals.
Three straight postseason shutouts are a meaningful accomplishment, particularly as the level of competition rises.
Now comes the next test. Stevenson stands between Brother Rice and a place in the state semifinals.
The Warriors have earned that opportunity through their results. If they continue defending at this level, they will give themselves a chance to keep their season alive.
