Chris Webber on the Vision Behind the Best of Michigan Tournament and Calihan Hall

The Hall of Famer discusses why the tournament matters, why Calihan Hall is the perfect stage, and shares his thoughts on today’s NBA.

Following the conclusion of the Chris Webber Best of Michigan Tournament Day 1, Detroit native and Basketball Hall of Famer Chris Webber sat down with Detroit Varsity Sports to reflect on the purpose behind the event, the importance of hosting it at Calihan Hall, and what he’s seen from Michigan’s top high school talent so far.

Webber spoke candidly about creating opportunities for young players, keeping the tournament rooted in Detroit, and why Calihan Hall holds special meaning for him and the city. He also shared his impressions from Day 1 competition and what he’s looking forward to as the tournament continues into Day 2.

In a lighter moment, Webber was asked to name his starting five in today’s NBA, offering insight into how he views the modern game and the players he believes set the standard.
