Detroit Edison Makes a Statement With 41–14 Win Over Summit Academy

DETROIT — Detroit Edison Public School Academy delivered one of its strongest statements of the young season Friday night, defeating Summit Academy North 41–14 in a Charter School Conference Gold Division matchup.

The victory continued an impressive response from the Pioneers following a difficult start to the season.

Detroit Edison opened the year with a 39–21 loss against perennial state power Jackson Lumen Christi, but the Pioneers have responded with back to back consecutive victories. Edison defeated Michigan Collegiate 30–18 before breaking through against a Summit Academy team that had been dominant defensively to begin the season.

Summit entered Friday’s matchup having shut out each of its first two opponents. That defensive streak ended emphatically against Edison.

The Pioneers put 41 points on the board and handed Summit its first loss of the season, turning what was expected to be a major early-season test into a convincing victory.

Quarterback Myles Matlock helped lead the Edison offense in the win. The Class of 2027 quarterback has become one of the players to watch as the Pioneers work their way through the 2026 schedule.

More importantly for Edison, the victory provides another indication that the opening-week loss to Lumen Christi did not define this team.

After facing one of Michigan’s most accomplished programs to begin the year, Edison has steadily built momentum. The Pioneers have now won two straight and sit at 2–1 overall and 2–0 in league play.

With the high school football season moving deeper into September, Detroit Edison is quickly becoming another Metro Detroit program worth keeping an eye on.

The Pioneers are scheduled to continue league play against Old Redford Academy on Friday, Sept. 18.
