Statement Made: Catholic Central Blanks De La Salle 53–0 in Dominant Fashion
NOVI, Mich. — So much for the first real test.
Detroit Catholic Central entered Friday night’s matchup with Warren De La Salle facing what appeared to be its biggest challenge of the young season.
The Shamrocks responded with their most emphatic statement yet.
Catholic Central dismantled De La Salle 53–0, improving to 4–0 and extending its winning streak to 18 consecutive games dating back to last season. Multiple current score reports confirm the 53–0 final.
The result was especially striking considering De La Salle entered the night 2–1 and had just battled Brother Rice to a 31–28 loss one week earlier.
Special Teams Break It Open
Senior athlete Gideon Gash delivered one of the night’s biggest performances.
Gash returned two punts for touchdowns, providing Catholic Central with explosive plays on special teams as the Shamrocks quickly took control. WXYZ highlighted Gash’s two return touchdowns in its Game of the Week coverage.
By the end of the third quarter, Catholic Central had built a 50-point advantage.
It wasn’t simply another victory for the defending Division 1 state champions. It was another example of just how difficult Catholic Central has been to slow down through the opening month.
Four Games, Four Statements
Catholic Central’s start now includes:
55–0 over Chippewa Valley
56–14 over Davison
57–14 over Windsor Holy Names
53–0 over De La Salle
Those results give Catholic Central 221 points scored and only 28 allowed through four games.
The Shamrocks have also posted two shutouts and scored at least 53 points in every game.
For a team that entered 2026 as the defending Division 1 state champion, Catholic Central hasn’t shown many signs of slowing down.
The Road Gets Interesting
Catholic Central will now leave Michigan for its next matchup, traveling to Ohio to face Toledo St. John’s Jesuit on Friday, Sept. 25 at 7 p.m.
De La Salle, meanwhile, falls to 2–2 and will also travel to Toledo next Friday for a 7 p.m. matchup with St. Francis de Sales.
For Catholic Central, however, Friday night answered one of the biggest questions surrounding its undefeated start.
After three dominant victories, De La Salle looked like the opponent capable of providing Catholic Central its toughest test yet.
Instead, the Shamrocks made their loudest statement of the season.
