Collision Course: Cass Tech, Detroit King Roll Into Highly Anticipated Showdown Unbeaten

DETROIT — The stage is getting bigger for Cass Tech and Detroit King.

Both Detroit powers took care of business Thursday, setting up an undefeated showdown next week.

Cass Tech overwhelmed Mumford 70–0, improving to 4–0. The Technicians entered the game unbeaten and delivered their most lopsided victory of the season. 

King answered with a dominant performance of its own.

The Crusaders defeated Detroit Henry Ford 54–6, also improving to 4–0. It was King’s largest margin of victory this season and its second consecutive blowout after shutting out Renaissance 41–0 last week. 

Now, the attention turns to one of the biggest games on Detroit’s high school football calendar.

Two unbeaten Detroit powers

King’s road to 4–0 has included a 27–7 win over Whitmer, the dramatic 44–42 double-overtime victory over Orchard Lake St. Mary’s, a 41–0 shutout of Renaissance and Thursday’s 54–6 win over Ford. 

Cass Tech has been equally impressive. The Technicians entered Thursday coming off a 46–0 victory over Southeastern before putting 70 on the board against Mumford. 

Thursday’s results mean neither program stumbled before the matchup DVS has had circled.

King vs. Cass Tech is next

The Crusaders and Technicians are currently scheduled to meet Friday, Sept. 25 at 5 p.m. Current MaxPreps listings identify Cass Tech as the home team and list Cass Technical High School as the game site.
