Troy, Troy Athens Battle to 1–1 Draw in Rivalry Match
TROY, Mich. — Two of Metro Detroit’s top boys soccer programs battled to a stalemate Tuesday night as Troy and rival Troy Athens finished in a 1–1 draw.
The matchup brought together two highly regarded Division 1 programs and lived up to its billing, with neither side able to separate itself before the final whistle.
A late goal ultimately resulted in the 1–1 draw, according to the Michigan High School Athletic Association’s daily statewide roundup. The MHSAA entered the matchup listing Troy as the No. 1-ranked team in Division 1 and Troy Athens at No. 10.
For Troy, the draw moved the Colts to 5–1–2 on the season. Athens remained unbeaten, moving to 3–0–3.
The result adds another chapter to a rivalry that has produced several close matches in recent seasons.
Athens defeated Troy 3–1 in October 2025 after earning a 1–0 victory earlier that season. Troy won the teams’ 2024 meeting 2–1. Tuesday’s draw continued that competitive trend.
Both programs have also established themselves among the stronger teams in the Metro Detroit soccer landscape.
In MaxPreps’ Metro Detroit rankings released before Tuesday’s match, Athens was ranked No. 2 in the area, while Troy entered at No. 8. Athens was also fifth in MaxPreps’ statewide rankings, with Troy at No. 14. Those rankings were published before the rivalry draw.
Troy’s résumé already includes wins over Adams, Clarkston, Oxford and Bloomfield Hills. The Colts’ lone loss came in a 2–1 matchup against Utica Eisenhower before they responded with Tuesday’s draw against Athens.

Troy and Athens won’t have much time to dwell on the draw. Troy is scheduled to visit Romeo on Thursday, while Athens travels to Rochester Adams for its first conference matchup of the season.
