Brother Rice Dominates Wayne Memorial, Advances to State Semifinals

Brother Rice delivered a commanding performance Tuesday night, defeating Wayne Memorial 88–59 in the MHSAA State Quarterfinal at University of Detroit Mercy to punch their ticket to the State Semifinals at the Breslin Center.

From the opening minutes, the Warriors controlled the tempo with aggressive offense and relentless defense, never allowing Wayne Memorial to find consistent momentum.

First Quarter – Warriors Set the Tone

Brother Rice came out firing early, attacking the paint and finding easy baskets through backdoor cuts and quick ball movement.

Wayne Memorial competed early but struggled to penetrate the lane as Brother Rice tightened up defensively toward the end of the quarter.

Second Quarter – Rice Extends the Lead

Both teams showed improvement offensively in the second quarter.

Wayne Memorial’s ball movement began creating opportunities for shooters, but Brother Rice’s defense limited clean looks. Meanwhile, the Warriors elevated their offensive intensity, entering the bonus and capitalizing at the free-throw line.

Defensively, Brother Rice was active in the passing lanes—creating steals, diving for loose balls, and converting turnovers into fast-break points to build a comfortable halftime lead.

Third Quarter – Control Continues

The Warriors maintained control coming out of halftime. Their offense continued to flow smoothly while their defense prevented Wayne Memorial from making a serious run.

Each time Wayne Memorial tried to close the gap, Brother Rice answered with efficient scoring and strong defensive possessions.

Fourth Quarter – Finishing Strong

Brother Rice closed the game in dominant fashion. With the offense still clicking and the defense locked in, the Warriors controlled the pace and continued to stretch the lead.

The strong finish sealed an 88–59 victory, sending Brother Rice to the MHSAA State Semifinals.
