Detroit Renaissance Wins Double-Overtime Thriller Over Wayne Memorial

One of the most exciting games of the season unfolded Wednesday night at Detroit Renaissance High School, where Detroit Renaissance defeated Wayne Memorial 62–60 in double overtime in a dramatic Regional Final showdown.
With both teams battling for a chance to advance in the state tournament, the packed gym witnessed a game filled with momentum swings, clutch shots, and relentless effort from both sides.
First Quarter – Renaissance Starts Fast
Detroit Renaissance wasted no time setting the tone, opening the game on an 8–0 run. Their offense attacked the paint effectively, creating scoring opportunities inside and putting early pressure on Wayne Memorial’s defense.
Wayne struggled to find rhythm offensively, scoring their only points of the quarter at the free-throw line.

Second Quarter – Wayne Memorial Responds
Wayne Memorial found momentum in the second quarter by attacking the basket and converting and-one opportunities.
Detroit Renaissance continued to control the boards early, but Wayne began to battle back in the rebounding department. Mariah Cross knocked down a big three-pointer as Wayne started finding success from mid-range and closing the gap.
Late fouls sent Wayne into the bonus, allowing them to cut the deficit heading into halftime.

Third Quarter – Renaissance Holds Control
Coming out of halftime, Detroit Renaissance returned to their strong first-quarter form.
Their energy and hustle created extra possessions, diving for loose balls and converting those opportunities into points to maintain their lead.

Fourth Quarter – Game Goes to Overtime
Wayne Memorial refused to back down.
The teams traded baskets late in the quarter before Trevelle Campbell hit a clutch mid-range jumper to tie the game and send the Regional Final into overtime.

Overtime – Walker Forces Another Period
The first overtime turned into a defensive battle.
Wayne Memorial briefly took a 53–51 lead with about 50 seconds remaining after strong execution down the stretch. Campbell added two free throws to extend the lead.
But Detroit Renaissance answered in dramatic fashion as Maria Walker knocked down a clutch three-pointer, forcing a second overtime.

Second Overtime – Walker Delivers the Winner
The second overtime was a fight for every possession.
Both teams attacked the paint and battled for rebounds until the final moments when Maria Walker delivered the game-winning shot, lifting Detroit Renaissance to a thrilling double-overtime victory.
