Day 2 of the Chris Webber Best of Michigan Tournament opened with a gritty, defense-heavy girls matchup as the Edison Pointers knocked off the Country Day Yellow Jackets, 41–39, on a game-winning basket in the closing seconds.

The contest featured physical play, tough defense, and late-game execution, with the outcome decided on the final possession.

First Half — Defense Sets the Tone

Both teams came out locked in defensively, making scoring difficult from the opening tip. Clean looks were limited, and both sides relied on attacking the paint and earning trips to the free-throw line.

After a missed opportunity late in the first half, Edison held a narrow edge heading into the break. At halftime, the Pointers led 17–14, with the game firmly dictated by defense and physicality.

Halftime standouts included Sariah Blackwell (#13) for Country Day and Marianne Jones (#15) for Edison, as both players anchored their teams on both ends of the floor.

Third Quarter — Momentum Swings

The intensity picked up coming out of halftime as both teams increased the pace. Blackwell (#13) continued to battle for loose balls and provide energy for the Yellow Jackets, setting the tone with toughness and effort.

For Edison, Rihanna Young (#24) answered every run, trading baskets with Country Day’s Naiya Krispin (#0) in a back-and-forth stretch that kept the game tight. Country Day did a strong job attacking the rim and getting to the line, while Edison responded by pushing the tempo and capitalizing in transition.

Following a timeout with 7:02 remaining in the fourth quarter, Country Day held a 35–30 lead, positioning themselves for a potential late push.

Closing Moments — Late Execution Decides It

As the clock wound down, defenses tightened and every possession became critical. With 30.9 seconds remaining, Naiya Krispin (#0) delivered a clutch moment, knocking down a three-pointer to tie the game at 39–39. Krispin finished the night with 15 points, keeping the Yellow Jackets alive.

Country Day followed with strong defensive pressure, forcing Edison to call a timeout and setting up a dramatic final possession.

Out of the break, the Pointers executed. Rihanna Young (#24) delivered the decisive bucket, scoring the game-winner and sealing a hard-earned 41–39 victory for Edison.
