Hudsonville Unity Christian Pulls Away from Detroit University Prep 59–44

Hudsonville Unity Christian controlled the game from the opening minutes and defeated Detroit University Prep 59–44 in the Division 2 State Semifinal at the Breslin Center.

Unity Christian’s physical play and dominant first half created a large early lead that Detroit University Prep was never able to fully overcome despite a strong defensive effort late in the game.

First Quarter

Unity Christian wasted no time setting the tone, scoring the first points of the game and playing aggressively on both ends of the floor.

Their physical defense made it difficult for University Prep to score inside, forcing tough shots and early mistakes. After falling behind 14–5, UP called a timeout to regroup.

Although UP tightened up defensively late in the quarter, Unity Christian maintained control heading into the second.

Second Quarter

Unity Christian continued to dominate in the second quarter.

Unity’s #12 was especially difficult to contain, scoring consistently in the paint and finishing the half with 12 points. Their defense also created problems for UP’s offense, which struggled to find rhythm and missed several open looks.

Despite a much-needed three-pointer from UP #21, Unity Christian extended the lead to 34–11 at halftime, putting Detroit University Prep in a deep hole.

Third Quarter

Unity Christian kept control coming out of halftime, stretching the lead to 40–13 early in the third quarter.

However, Detroit University Prep began showing signs of life offensively as shots started to fall. Their improved play helped trim the deficit slightly, but Unity Christian’s consistent scoring kept them comfortably in front heading into the final quarter.

Fourth Quarter

Detroit University Prep showed tremendous fight in the fourth quarter.

Their defense forced multiple turnovers, and the offense slowly chipped away at the lead, cutting the deficit to 57–44 with just over a minute remaining.

The late push energized the crowd, but the early deficit proved too much to overcome as Unity Christian closed out the game to secure the 59–44 victory.

Detroit University Prep battled hard down the stretch and showed resilience in the second half, but Unity Christian’s dominant first half ultimately decided the game.
