West Bloomfield Wins District Title, Defeats Orchard Lake St. Mary’s 39-36

In a defensive battle packed with intensity, momentum swings, and playoff energy, West Bloomfield (9–17) captured the District Championship at home with a gritty 39-36 win over Orchard Lake St. Mary’s (10–11).

With both student sections loud and engaged, this one had a true playoff atmosphere from start to finish.

First Quarter - Defense Sets the Tone

West Bloomfield came out physical and locked in defensively. An early block ignited the home crowd, and the Lakers’ pressure forced OLSM into tough possessions.

The Lakers jumped out to a 10–3 lead before OLSM regrouped after a timeout. The Eaglets knocked down a key three from #20 DJ Banks and tightened up defensively to close the quarter within four.

Second Quarter - Eaglets Respond

OLSM opened the quarter with improved ball movement and interior scoring. #2 Kareem Pruitt helped spark the offense, tying the game at 10 before West Bloomfield answered with a much-needed three from #21

The Lakers attempted several perimeter shots but struggled with tough bounces. Despite OLSM’s push, West Bloomfield held a narrow three-point lead at the break.

Third Quarter - Lakers Take Control

The third quarter proved pivotal.

OLSM’s #32 Chad Willis kept the Eaglets within reach, but West Bloomfield answered with timely buckets. #23 Nasir Moore completed an and-one, and #15 Ryan Hood delivered clutch back-to-back baskets to extend the lead.

Foul trouble began to mount for both teams, increasing tension as the Lakers slowed the pace late in the quarter. A key steal by #23 Nasir Moore helped WB maintain control heading into the fourth.

Fourth Quarter - Championship Execution

The Lakers opened the final frame aggressively, #23 Nasir Moore creating offense and attacking the rim. OLSM’s #2 Kareem Pruitt answered with critical points to cut the deficit to 28–22.

Foul trouble became a factor as the intensity increased. With 12 seconds remaining and the score at 37–34, the pressure peaked.

West Bloomfield executed late knocking down key free throws and securing defensive stops to seal the 39–36 District Championship victory.

The energy inside the gym was electric, with both student sections fully engaged in a true playoff battle.

Avondale’s only loss came early in the season to Freeland (21–3). The Lakers previously faced Avondale in January, falling 94–69.
