Brother Rice–Detroit Catholic Central Rivalry to Headline Centennial CHSL Prep Bowl at Ford Field
One of Michigan high school football’s most storied rivalries is heading to the state’s biggest stage.
Birmingham Brother Rice and defending Division 1 state champion Detroit Catholic Central will meet Saturday, October 24, at Ford Field as the headline matchup of the 2026 Catholic High School League Prep Bowl. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
The matchup will close a day of championship football and special presentations as the CHSL celebrates its 100th anniversary.
Before the rivalry game, the league plans to recognize its 100 greatest male and female student-athletes. The honorees were selected following nominations from CHSL schools and the public, giving the annual Prep Bowl an added historical significance during the league’s centennial season.
The football matchup brings together two of the most accomplished programs in Michigan history.
Detroit Catholic Central has won 11 MHSAA football state championships, including the 2025 Division 1 title. Brother Rice owns nine state championships, highlighted by three consecutive Division 2 titles from 2011 through 2013.
Together, the Shamrocks and Warriors have accounted for 20 state championships and 31 appearances in an MHSAA championship game.
Their history has helped make Brother Rice–Catholic Central one of the Catholic League’s defining rivalries. This year’s meeting will add another chapter under the lights at Ford Field, where both programs have celebrated some of their greatest postseason moments.
The game will also provide both teams with a major late-season test immediately before the beginning of the MHSAA football playoffs. Beyond rivalry bragging rights, the matchup could carry significant momentum and postseason positioning for two programs accustomed to playing deep into November.
For the CHSL, the event will be about more than the final score.
The league was established in 1926 and has grown from its Detroit roots into one of the country’s most prominent Catholic high school athletic organizations. Its centennial Prep Bowl will bring current athletes, historic figures, alumni and supporters together for a full-day celebration at Ford Field.
With a century of Catholic League history being honored and two championship programs meeting in the nightcap, the 2026 Prep Bowl is positioned to be one of the marquee events of the Detroit-area high school football season.
