DCC QB Duke Banta to Undergo X-Rays After Leaving Toledo Central Catholic Game
NOVI — Detroit Catholic Central remained unbeaten Saturday with a 31–12 victory over Toledo Central Catholic, but the Shamrocks left the game with a major question surrounding starting quarterback Duke Banta.
Banta exited late in the second quarter after being shaken up at the end of a scramble. He was able to walk off the field under his own power but did not return for the remainder of the game.
Following the victory, DCC head coach Justin Cessante said there was no official injury update yet and that Banta was expected to undergo X-rays.
Cessante added that, based on the early outlook, he anticipated Banta could potentially miss two to three weeks, although that timeline remains preliminary until the team receives more information from the evaluation.
DCC Forced to Adjust
Banta had already made an impact before leaving the game, scoring on a quarterback run that helped Detroit Catholic Central build an early lead.
The Shamrocks were ahead 24–6 at halftime and adjusted offensively after Banta’s departure, leaning more heavily on their ground game while the defense continued to control the matchup.
Detroit Catholic Central eventually closed out the 31–12 victory, improving to 6–0.
Waiting on the Evaluation
For now, the biggest question is Banta’s availability moving forward.
Cessante did not provide a specific diagnosis after the game, and the results of the X-rays will likely give DCC a clearer picture of the quarterback’s status.
A potential two-to-three-week absence would be significant for an unbeaten Shamrocks team entering the later portion of its schedule, but any timetable should remain considered an estimate until DCC provides an official update.
Detroit Varsity Sports will continue to follow Banta’s status as more information becomes available.
