Fordson Shakes Up Division 1 With 14–10 Upset of Previously Unbeaten Northville

One of Week 6’s biggest Metro Detroit surprises came out of Northville.

Fordson went on the road and defeated previously unbeaten Northville 14–10, handing the Mustangs their first loss of the season and pushing the Tractors to 5–1.

And this wasn’t a matchup Fordson was expected to win.

Northville entered the week 5–0 and ranked No. 9 in the Michigan Sports Writers Division 1 poll. Fordson wasn’t ranked in that top 10.

Fordson nevertheless took a 14–10 advantage into the fourth quarter and made it stand, winning its third consecutive game.

Fordson Is Suddenly 5–1

The victory becomes even more interesting when looking at Fordson’s lone loss.

The Tractors’ only defeat came against Belleville, 26–21, on Sept. 11. Since then, Fordson has beaten Dearborn 24–17, Salem 38–13 and now Northville 14–10.

That résumé is beginning to get noticed.

Fordson entered the new Free Press Super 25 at No. 25, while Northville dropped out following the loss.

For a program that wasn’t receiving nearly the same statewide attention as Cass Tech, DCC, Clarkston and several other Division 1 contenders, Friday’s result changes the conversation.

Fordson is 5–1.

Its only loss was by five points to Belleville.

And now it owns a victory over a Northville team that entered Friday undefeated.

The Tractors may have just announced themselves as another Division 1 team nobody wants to see in the postseason.
