Road to Ford Field: Cass Tech–King, Central–Denby Set for 2026 PSL Football Championships
DETROIT, Mich. — The stage is officially set for one of the biggest nights of Detroit high school football.
The Detroit Public Schools Community District Athletics Department has confirmed the matchups for the 2026 Detroit Public School League (PSL) Football City Championships, scheduled for Friday, October 16, at Ford Field.
This year’s championship doubleheader features two regular-season rematches, with Detroit Central facing Denby for the Gold Division title and Cass Tech taking on Detroit King for the Blue Division championship.
Both games will give familiar opponents another opportunity to settle the score, this time with a city championship on the line.
Cass Tech and King Renew Their Rivalry at Ford Field
The evening’s main event features two of Detroit’s most recognizable high school football programs as Cass Tech and Detroit King meet at 7 p.m. for the PSL Blue Division championship.
The Technicians enter the matchup with momentum after defeating King 20–7 during their regular-season meeting on September 25.
In that contest, King carried a 7–0 lead into halftime before Cass Tech responded in the second half. Running back Julian Taylor delivered two fourth-quarter touchdown runs, while the Technicians’ defense helped turn the game around.
Now the Crusaders will have an opportunity to avenge that defeat on a much bigger stage.
For Cass Tech, the championship represents an opportunity to reinforce its position atop the PSL. For King, it’s a chance to reverse the regular-season result and claim the Blue Division crown.
With a championship at stake, the rematch carries even greater significance.
Central and Denby Meet Again for Gold Division Title
Before the Blue Division championship, Detroit Central and Denby will open the doubleheader at 4 p.m. in the PSL Gold Division championship game.
Their previous meeting produced one of the most unusual results of the Detroit high school football season.
Central defeated Denby 6–2 on October 8 in a defensive battle that ended Denby’s five-game winning streak.
The result added another twist to an already competitive Gold Division race.
Now Denby gets a second opportunity against the team that handed it a critical regular-season defeat.
For Central, another victory would complete a memorable two-game sweep of Denby. For Denby, the rematch presents an opportunity to turn the tables when the stakes are highest.
Two Rematches. Two Championships. One Stage.
The PSL championships bring Detroit’s high school football spotlight to Ford Field, home of the Detroit Lions.
Both matchups feature teams that have already faced one another this season, adding another layer of intrigue to the championship games.
Cass Tech and Central will look to repeat their earlier victories, while King and Denby will attempt to rewrite the ending.
