Cass Tech Survives Late Push, Defeats West Bloomfield 68–65 in Tournament Thriller

The final game of the Chris Webber Best of Michigan Tournament delivered exactly what fans hoped for. In a physical, high-level matchup filled with momentum swings and clutch plays, Cass Tech edged West Bloomfield, 68–65, in a game that came down to execution in the final minutes.

First Quarter — Fast Start, Physical Play

Both teams opened the game aggressively, with shots falling early on both ends. Cass Tech leaned on physical play in the paint, while West Bloomfield attacked the glass to generate second-chance opportunities.

The back-and-forth opening quarter ended with Cass Tech holding a narrow 18–17 lead, setting the tone for a tightly contested night.

Second Quarter — West Bloomfield Applies Pressure

West Bloomfield continued to pressure the defense by attacking the rim and getting to the free-throw line. Cass Tech countered by staying composed offensively and continuing to score inside.

At halftime, West Bloomfield held a slim 39–38 advantage, despite a strong scoring effort from Stevie Hall (#1, Cass Tech), who led all scorers with 18 points at the break. West Bloomfield saw balanced production, including 10 points from Harold Haynes (#10) and 13 points from Jaydyn Brown (#11).

Third Quarter — Cass Tech Regains Control

Coming out of halftime, West Bloomfield briefly seized momentum by spreading the floor, defending as a unit, and slowing down Hall. While Cass Tech struggled to score consistently at times, they remained within striking distance.

Late in the quarter, Cass Tech responded, reclaiming the lead behind defensive stops and timely scoring. By the end of the third, the Technicians held a 55–51 advantage.

Fourth Quarter — Late Execution Decides It

The final frame turned into a possession-by-possession battle. Cass Tech capitalized on West Bloomfield turnovers, turning mistakes into points and stretching the lead to 60–52 with just over five minutes remaining.

West Bloomfield answered with resilience, knocking down two clutch three-pointers to cut the deficit to 62–60, keeping the game within one possession deep into the final minutes.

With 4:25 remaining, the score tightened to 66–65, but Cass Tech executed when it mattered most. Strong defensive possessions and free throws down the stretch sealed the 68–65 victory.
