West Bloomfield earned a hard-fought 62–56 victory over Detroit Country Day on Day 1 of the Chris Webber Best of Michigan Tournament, using defensive pressure, ball movement, and a strong second half to close the game out.
With the win, West Bloomfield improves to 1–2 on the season, while Detroit Country Day falls to 3–1.
First Quarter — Defensive Tone Set Early
The opening quarter featured physical defense on both ends, with each team contesting shots and protecting the paint. West Bloomfield held a slim 12–11 lead after one as both squads struggled to find early rhythm.
Second Quarter — West Bloomfield Creates Separation
West Bloomfield began to create distance in the second quarter by forcing turnovers and converting them into points. Detroit Country Day defended the paint well but struggled on the boards, allowing West Bloomfield to build momentum and take a 30–17 lead into halftime.
Third Quarter — Britton Sparks the Surge
Coming out of the break, West Bloomfield played with increased urgency. Ball movement led to open looks, and Curtis Britton (#4) led the offensive push during a strong third quarter.
Defensively, WB stayed disruptive and limited Country Day’s scoring opportunities, extending the lead to 47–36 heading into the fourth.
Fourth Quarter — Country Day Pushes, WB Responds
Detroit Country Day made a late push behind Christian Cast (#2), who scored 12 points in the fourth quarter to keep his team within reach.
West Bloomfield countered with timely double teams and forced Country Day to earn points at the free-throw line. Foul trouble became a factor late, as Nasir Moore (#23, WB) and Anthony Cartwright (#5, Country Day) fouled out.
West Bloomfield stayed composed in the closing minutes, executing defensively and at the line to secure the 62–56 victory.
